Having finished at the top of Group H, the Navigators are back against the Red Crosses, seeking a win for a place in the quarterfinals at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Portugal vs. Switzerland kicks off at 20:00 (GMT+1) on Tuesday, December 6, at Lusail Stadium.

Despite a 2-1 loss to South Korea on Match Day 3, Portugal finished at the top of Group H, having accumulated 6 points in total. South Korea (4) finished as runners-up in the group, ahead of third-placed Uruguay (4), who had as many points, while Ghana (3) finished at the bottom. Portugal have three victories sandwiched between two defeats, LWWWL, ahead of their third meeting in 2022 with the Red Crosses, following two episodes in the UEFA Nations League in June. Portugal won 4-0 in the first meeting before Switzerland picked up a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture a week later. Having failed to win any of their last five knockout games at the FIFA World Cup, Portugal are looking to reach the quarterfinals for only a third time. Fernando Santos lined up a 4—3—3 with Cristiano Ronaldo at the center of the attacking trio and is expected to do so again for this clash against Switzerland. Ronaldo had exchanged words with South Korea's Cho Gue-sung on his way out in the 65th minute, fueling speculation by the media that he had used obscene words towards the coach, having been substituted for André Silva. "I told him [Cho Gue-sung] to shut up," the iconic No. 7 said. However, Portuguese media reported the veteran striker had directed the words: "You're in such a hurry to take me off" towards his own bench, leaving Santos with a lengthy explanation to clear the air.

Switzerland finished as runners-up in Group G following a dramatic 3-2 win over Serbia on Match Day 3, having picked up as many points as first-placed Brazil (6). Cameroon (4) and Serbia (1) crashed out, having finished in 3rd and 4th place, respectively. "We're very happy that we're now moving onto the round of 16," Murat Yakin said. Having reached the knockout phase three times in a row, the Red Crosses are now looking to reach the quarterfinals, - although they have alternated between a win and a loss, WLWLW. The Red Crosses have won half of their last six games against Portugal [3W, 0D, & 3L] and an unlikely victory over Portugal on Tuesday would see them win three games at a FIFA World Cup for the first time. A 4—2—3—1 with Breel Embolo in attack is expected to remain in place from Murat Yakin, having seen his side hit the back of the net three times against Serbia.
